Proud levees, dams, dikes constructed,
Towers and roadways built nearby;
Enjoying waterways where abodes lie,
Lives merry, we think we are protected...
Or so we thought. Mother Nature,
Unleashing mighty waters' furies,
Flooded us with a different future.

Given what is going on around us, a timely reminder of the limits of human 'control' over nature. Something we too often forget, to our sorrow. Thanks for entering the contest.

A solid poem, my friend. What sprang to mind, especially with your mention of "proud levees" was the destruction of New Orleans as a result of Hurricane Katrina. I was in the city last year and saw at first hand the destructive aftermath of that disaster.

As long as you didn't ...
wash away, I guess. It's time to be thankful that you didn't decide to buy a house in a lowland area. Perhaps you have a guardian angel.

a good poem, aye, we can build and we can build and live in the hope we are safe and protected but mother nature will soon show us the error of our ways with her immense power.
