God of the Morning

God of the morning,
Lord of my thoughts,
Speak in my movements.
Bestow light to my words.
Create graceful refrains
with the steps that I take
towards You.

God of the morning,
Lover of my spirit,
own my imaginings,
make them as rain drops--
each one anew.
Divinity whispers
in places I go,
everywhere is heaven
when my soul is in your Presence.

God of the morning,
Creator and King,
what do I need
save Your hand
and Your breath?
Oh, that I will rest in You--
that is my very life,
my delight, my passion.

God of the morning,
let me follow You,
as the birds flock to warmth,
all of my days
and into the night.

    Dear Mary,

Unpretentious, sincere and devout are the words which spring to mind as I finish reading your beautiful and prayerful poem (for the third time.)
Only a good person could have written this. Thankyou for allowing us this insight into your soul and your faith.
Applause, love and hugs, XXX Hugh.

Dear Mary, this is a lovely hymn and prayer. I especially like "everywhere is heaven / when my soul is in your Presence", it reminds me of Brother Lawrence's practice. This poem describes a lively and comforting faith. Many blessings always.

Thank you, Margaret. I picked up that book years ago and have not stopped reading it. There is always a new beam of light with every reading.
