Meara dances
to music no one hears
sleek stalks of wild wheat
tickle at her face
as she runs past
(her laughter fills the sky)
gay and joyous
she smiles to outshine the sun
and her warmth
wakes flowers from their sleep.
Author notes
Meara (Meara Dawn) is actually my daughter's name .. but I think it's still fairly unique. It's Celtic, and means "filled with mirth". (mirth meaning : 1. gaiety or jollity, esp. when accompanied by laughter: the excitement and mirth of the holiday season.
2. amusement or laughter: He was unable to conceal his mirth.)
And, my daughter is very mirthful .. if you care to see her, there's a picture of her on my contest page (Children's Poetry - CONTEST)

How would you pronounce the name? Meara like May Ra or My Ra?
I really think that name is beautiful!

Well ..
Most people who come across it pronounce "Mee-Rah", so it's kind of gotten bastardized into that, because it's so easy to pronounce .. I, personally, pronounce it more like .. "mher-ah", with a soft first syllable .. though, much of the time I call her "Mim" "Mims" "Mimsy" or "pup" haha ..
