Sweet Sixteen

Another happy birthday, another birthday song, My father's slightly off-key and my brother sings it wrong.
A four piece chocolate cake that we all had fasted for. A little burnt in places but one couldn't ask for more.
Another happy birthday, and three more birthday gifts that had my mother penny pinching and gave my father extra shifts.
From my mom I got a pair of shoes that were next to new. They were a bit too big, something I would grow into.
My bro gave me a picture of his very cute best friend. He'd always known I'd liked him and he teased me to no end.
My father's gift hadn't been wrapped, and it was too big to hide. I'd stared at it for hours wondering what was inside.
Now I tore in excitedly, and shrieked the moment I saw. It was so beautiful, my first porcelain doll.
Though we were poor the love I got made me feel like a queen. So it was a happy birthday, a perfect sweet sixteen.

I did turn 16 recently, but this wasn't about my birthday. Mine was nothing like it.

    i love it. it sounds like a song barney sang to kids so he could get near them (and ultimately rape them).

    great write.I hope your b-day was wonderful.You are just a grown lady!!!!! I liked the write and it had great emotion and the story was wonderful.But I hope you are doing fine and remember that I love you and I hope you had a great b-day.     This is a great write. Even though it didn't personally happen to you, I really hope that your sweet sixteen was in fact sweet. I spent mine alone. But I really hope that yours was great. This is an amazing write.
