Huge Steps, Little Steps!

Thunder, thunder,

little pad, little pad...

deep rumblings, ambling onward,
brushing past fierce, sword-like thorns...
crunching, juices flow, fibres shredded, devoured.

Weighty trunk; swaying,

little ears flapping...

to and fro, to and fro,
feeling movement through earth's tremors...
hurried steps to catch up!

This is vivid and it nicely expresses the elephant's moves.

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my poem. The photograph was taken by my brother when he was in Africa two months ago. I simply adore baby elephants. This is especially adorable because the little fellow is trying to keep up with his mothers footsteps.
