Grackle

To take a white cricket in mid-air,
to perch on the telephone wire,
balancing with your long black tail,
and display it to your flock-mates,
its legs still twitching,
must be a good moment.

Then your flock-brethren call jealous disappointment,
which makes it perfect.

Savour these moments;
life may be shorter than you know.

Author notes

Greater Antillean Grackle (Quiscalus niger)

This about brings to an end my material written during a trip to the Caribbean. A few fragments are still waiting to take form, but it may take some time.

    Thankyou for the author notes, you always teach me something. Nothing like a grockle then? That was something new to learn going from South to West. Indeed, savour the moments as life may be shorter than you think. There is an intrinsic difference between appreciative/admirational envy as opposed to the billious green bile like jealousy, the feathered flock, birds on a wire, wired for sound. Hope you enjoy the half term dear poet and please don't put me in detention for my rambling lol
