Hello my fine feathered friend
How are you today
Will you walk around the yard
Or perhaps you'll fly away
I'd like for you to stay awhile
And sing with your melodious voice
I won't request a favorite
As I know this will be your choice
I've gathered up a few berries
I thought you might like a few
If you want worms and insects
I'll leave that up to you
I didn't see your cup shaped nest
That is good my little friend
Because you're safe inside of it
You've managed to make a good blend
Thank you for your lovely song
I must be on my way
Perhaps you and I
Will meet another day

These backbirds are just like you described. Very nice poem about this common blackbird. We don't get to see the common blackbird much in the USA. We see crows, grackles and redwinged blackbirds...which are all birds that are black...but not this bird.
Thanks for the entry.

I see you have added another in your delightful series of "Hello my feathered friend" - this one emphasizing the diverse diet of this particular friend. I like the image of you offering a handful of berries; it's quite humorous that you say you will leave the bugs to them.
I've gathered up some berries;
I thought you'd like a few.
If you want worms and insects,
I'll leave that up to you.
I have tweaked it a bit for meter - what do you think?
My daughter and I have enjoyed reading your series as it has evolved. All the best.

Thank you ea and your daughter for reading my poetry. I like birds and I like watching them or I used to watch them. Where I live now I don't have a tree, I hear them sing from time to time. These poems are for a contest. I think maybe I have missed a few. Thanks for the tweaking. tweet tweet.
