An elderberry in a ring
of gold and set in jet,
your eye is fixed, a mourning pin -
a living marquisette.

I was turned down once for misspelling marcasite, and I was in my 30's at the time! I don't care what the picture prompt is, you've made this shine out in your own way. I wonder if the stone was first made for a female marquis? Who cares: your words glow.

I love the unique manner you have responded to the prompt ... since I love making crystal jewelry, the comparison of the birdie's eyes with precious stones has touched my heart ...
when durga was with me, I was amazed about her tranquility and trust ... she was not hopping and flying around all over the place (especially my head and shoulders) like garuda the chickadee is doing right now ... a different temper ...
a wonderful tribute, very noble and loving ...
much love,
marion

I love the metaphor of a mourning pin of jet and a black bird, with gold eyes, it's very apt, as I have seen some of these amazing Victorian pins. Nice!

A very petty poem about the bird, with poetic images singing throughout your poem. Good luck in the contest.
