The Phoenix

"The Phoenix hope, can wing her way
through the desert skies,
and still defying fortune's spite;
revive from ashes and rise!"
- Miquel de Cervantes Saavedra

Ethereally golden wings flapping gleams of fire..
bath in holy light's path of fireflies in the sky.
It has been devoured by destiny.. flying higher
to redeem the conscience of fates with a goodbye..

..by merely whispering:
"..EMBERS.."

Author notes

The Phoenix is one of my totems. It's a symbol of fire, light & the Sun, also: Ra & Apollo, and called "Bennu" in Egytian mythology.

    Beautiful, I love how you create this story, the way you give it to the reader. Strong words and powerful images.

    mysterious

    I would shorten the last line to drop 'it is' to end on a more powerful word. Is the "quote" yours? if so you should unquote to show that it's your poetry! Remember that a powerful symbol doesn't speak for itself- you need to create the context, tell a story. That's done in the second stanza, a great start to be developed. The mystique of the bird works well here.

    I love the second stanza. And to have the Phoenix to be related to you I think is something amazing. I do have a question. Whats a totem though.
