The cold air remains still
Hovering above the grassy mounds
With tears my eyes slowly fill
As I mourn those buried under the ground
The men who gave their lives
As a sacrifice for peace for all
The ones who left behind mourning children and wives
Are now lying beneath crosses so small
White row after row
Of small crosses so white
All symbols of the silent heroes
Who were taken back into the light
So tall and proud, with their loved ones,
They stand in heaven now
In the end, they all won
And to them, we make a final vow
For the ones who stood at the final frontiers,
For the loved ones who were condemned,
For the families who cried endless tears,
We will always, always remember them.
Author notes
I can't do those valiant soldiers justice but this is the best that I've got for now.

Yes those small white crosses seem too small to mark such a great sacrifice I think. When I see them I have the sense of such great loss. A lovely tribute to all those who have fought and died. Thanks for the great entry. Hugs, Bunny

Nicely written. I think you did well. My cousin left for Iraq yesterday. My son is headed to the service after college. It makes me feel good to see that others care. Thank you for sharing.

Wow, this is such a powerful work. The images of the strong brave guardians is lovingly portrayed. Well done, as usual, dear.
