As it blows gently across the green.
The warm sun shining down,
On a scene that’s just pristine.
To walk these grounds alone,
Is to me an immense pleasure
Because buried in the soil,
Our nation’s greatest treasure.
The men and women who served,
Our enemies they had to face;
For those that paid the price,
This is their resting place.
Twenty-one gunshots heard,
Many tears do eyes display;
A coffin draped by a flag,
And Amazing Grace will play.
Walking these hollowed grounds
A silent tear I’ll shed.
I daren’t disturb this place.
A place for those that bled
Author notes
Back home there is a cemetery that I visited not to long ago. Some of the graves are from as far back as the 1700's. The right-of-passage to be buried this is being a veteran. I've been to that cemetery before and other being there for and participating in military burials. It really is hard to keep a dry eye now when I hear amazing grace being played. The photo above is a picture from the Baton Rouge National Cemetery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This poem was written June 10th 2008.

Breathtaking, again, you have such a talent for writing war poetry....
For me, graveyards represent fear rather than peace, but perhaps one day that too will change.

Theres a big difference between a normal cemetary and a war cemetary.

A wonderful tribute to any soldier, male or female, that has given his or her life for their beliefs.
A beautiful poem and although I have not had the experience that you have, you bought it to life with your well chosen words.
All the best...Sue

This was a wonderfully written piece.. Being from a military family and hearing Amazing Grace being played on days that hero's and family are buried always brings a tear to my eye.. And yet when your there at the grave site and you watch the coffin being placed in the ground I have noticed that there's this sorrowful "peace".. Like the whole world stops to mourn the loss of a hero and protector... It's surprisingly amazing...Anyway you did a wonderful job hun.. I really loved this..

Honestly, I really can't see the 'nature' aspect of it but on a different note, if you were to use lowercase letters after the first line of each stanza, the readability will become more fluid than at first impression

Your right. I changed the group I had it listed in.
