Hate Crimes

What
What
What
is wrong
with being gay?
So wrong that it has
become a special sin
in the church,
in my church
so that people
either hide
or stay away
from Christ.
A sin somehow worse
than priests that molest children
or husbands that have
affair after affair
and still serve communion.
What is
so wrong with being gay
that I can harass you
and call you names
just for loving
someone I don't approve of
when I don't ask you
to approve of who I love.
What is so wrong
with being gay
that people
are hung,
staked out on fences
beated and raped
just for acting,
thinking
and loving differently
than me.
What is so wrong
with being gay
that I can raise
children anyway that I want
and teach them any values
but somehow the values
you would teach
make me believe
you can not raise children
even if you are a loving couple.
What is so wrong
with being gay
that I am scared
to face my sexuality
and yours
and bridge the chasm
into friendship.

So true. Most religions need a sense of persecution to keep the flock together - and thereby controlled. Christianity, for example, needed a crucifixion to get started and it's been repeating this winning formula ever since. Everyone who fails to submit comes into the line of fire sooner or later. Yesterday it was colour that was the main target, today it's gender and sexuality.
No-one should have to stand with their cap in their hand, hoping... So, be honest. Stand up for yourself -
and friends, true friends, will bridge that chasm. And all the rhetoric of men, pretending to be the loudspeakers of the 'sole' truth, will never be able to shake that friendship!

    A very brave poem! Congratulations.

I must speak out now. - The title of my next poem. I first must address that your rant poem is very expressive and for that you will get some applauses. Secondly I must say that believing that homosexuality is wrong does not make me hate. It is my firm conviction because of it is unnatural and the Bible says it is wrong. However I will admit that much of Christianity addresses this manner wrong. I will strive to not be hateful even if my opinion is deemed that. Thanks for your entry this is an important topic.

Well, this is more like a rant or a statement which I can understand, and it is sad that judgement my be swayed by what you seem to be than actually are. Sadly, it remains as a minority, like all minority groups has much to conquer, and need a very long bridge to fill this area of social refrinement, ie, the 'norm'.
