Fish and the Facts of Life
By Glenda L Shank on June 12th 2008, lunch time.
on topic Why look for fish
Why look for fish
in a store that sells bread
or bread in the store
that sells hardware,
cold and catagorized
for someone looking for softness?
I have looked for the bread of life,
called by many love,
though few understand love's true nature,
in all the wrong places
expecting others to love
a person
that I did not even love.
I loved fish
cold and heartless
who's only real desire in life
was to spawn.
And spawn with them I did
producing children
believing that sex
and children
were a guarantee
against abandonment.
forgetting that fish
follow set patterns
and always return
to the same place
to spawn and die.
after spawning
you did not die
the relatiobhsip did.
And I followed my own fish patterns
doing the same things
with different faces
and new hopes
just to end up alone
trying to care
for my
children alone.
realizing only after
they grew and I was truly alone
that I needed to give up
fish
and find myself
instead.
If I do I might discover
that I was never a fish at all
but a beautiful dolphin
who is free to choose
and grow and travel,
without worrying about
fish
and fishing.
