Stay the Knife

Illuminated stories

pierce deep shadows

on a lonely heart,

quick to my destruction.

Laced to appease one

with my life in his hands,

throwing magical glances

in mystery, deterring,

to stay death's knife.

For my life in the deserts,

for love of 'oasis'

a caravanserai of dreams

dumbfounds his refusal.

My sword play love scenes,

impossible odds to mirror,

shine streaming through the ages

bewitching minds to move.

It is I Scheherazade,

after; three thousand necks lay bleeding,

a thousand and one of Hazar Afsanah,

who holds the heart of Shahryar

in such mighty timeless grip!

Intriguing. I love the title too. (should line 13 be 'dumbfounds'?) Beautifully written, good luck in the contest. X

  • Sol,

I like this very much, but am unfamiliar with the story. Can you please explain a little more for my ignorance in Arabian Nights? Thanks! Nice write!

    • Shahryar the king insisted on having a story told to him every night and if he wasn't taken by it the story tellers life would be forfeited. Scheherazade told him wonderful stories always finishing at a point for the king to have to wait until the next night for the next part. So the 1001 nights came about as these stories called Hazar Afsanah. Also she eventually won not only her freedom but the kings heart.

she had to keep reading in order to stay alive, maybe if you'd rescued her, she could have stopped at 768 in the stories - maybe?? or maybe not, you tell a grand tale yourself luv and this one is quite beautiful.
