Each one set out
Along the way
From chapel door
To where the small
White coffin lies
And preacher stands.
One small red rose
Upon the lid,
To tell of love
And show the grief
Of baby dead
Which lies beneath
The coffin’s wood
Which was a tree
And proudly stood
But now it holds
Like vessel womb
A baby child
Within its tomb.

this is sooo emotional...my mother lost her first child, My sister when she just turned a year old. my mom and my dad still suffer after 24 years.
I loved the last two stanzas..especially "but now it holds
Like vessel womb..."

Also very sad and very descriptive.
I love the flow of this poem.
You did a good job.
Favorite stanza
"Which lies beneath
The coffin’s wood
Which was a tree
And proudly stood"
I could really feel this poem having lost a baby cousin of 18 months to a house fire two years ago.

Aww this poem was sad.
It was amazing to read a poem others are afraid to write about or even touch on the subject. Yet you did it so beautiful and well-written.
Not to say its not a sad subject but I could feel this poem as I read it. Like Im pretty sure a few families have gone through this and just that thought alone frightens me.
Thanks you for allowing me to read this.
I liked this one.

Amazing....
A good friend of mine lost her baby to SIDS when she was about 2.5 months old. I went to the viewing and that was the first time I saw her. She was perfect. I really appreciate this poem. It expresses the feelings well, and your wording is great.

I was very touched by this one, especially having lost a child myself. I didn't even have the benefit of a small coffin as I miscarried when I was 3 months and a week. I never got pregnant again, which makes the hollow feeling inside, even more empty. Empty arms are so deeply sad for a woman who has lived to be a mother. Sorry for drifting off there....but your poem really took me there again.
I was reading your page and thought that you are only 10 years my senior, yet you have been so much more prolific than me. I have accomplished so little in 50 years. I feel like I just woke up about 3 weeks ago. Maybe I can make up for lost time within the next 10 years, if God allows.
BLESSINGS & LOVE,
Doris

What a sad poem!
This is a very well written, very sad poem! It's got a good structure, good wording and an emotional statement that we all can empathize with! I like this poem and will look for more from you!

Sad, with a classic style stark and spare, each word well chosen. A complete tale, with the cut of emotions that accompany a stunted life and tragic loss. Well done.

Terry, this poem is extraordinary in tone, measure, starkness. If this is a true life account, it breaks my heart. If it's artistic projection, I applaud you. I cannot imagine how awful a small white coffin can be in reality. In reading this, I feel I'm newly blessed. I have so much, and I should be thankful.
A belated welcome to this site. I hope you can find solace, and comfort here, as well as share some good reading and writing.
Peace always,
Jin

ouch.
I appreciate the delicate lines here. A bit too close to home... thoughts I'd rather leave buried so excuse if I say little else.

Wonderful And Heartfelt
So sad and heartfelt. It is never easy to lose a child no matter the age. There is something a bit sadder when it is a baby. I guess its the innocence and all they will miss in life, of what could have been. Losing my adult son last year was the most painful thing I ever had to go through. I can really relate to your words. Thank you for sharing. You take care. Sandy
