Every year when June first arrives,
we begin our preparation.
To make sure everyone survives,
another hurricane season.
Drinking water, stocked and stored,
shelves filled with food.
Just in case electricity goes out,
we stock up on wood.
Medical supplies, extra dog food,
gas and back up generator;
better to have things ready now,
than not to have them later.
When a hurricane does approach,
the air gets terrifyingly still,
even though it's warm outside,
the feeling gives a chill.
We sit, wait, and quietly pray,
hoping she'll head to sea;
waiting for a hurricane, is
slow and nerve wracking.

Nice one
Delightful, in that it describes preparations instead of an actual event. In the last line, I would have put "waiting for a hurricane is, Unnerving as can be!"
But that is just me
Thanks for entering!

Too true! The hurricane season is quite dreadful and extremely taxing on the nerves though thankfully the area where I stay is not a hurricane prone zone, yay!

Sweet poem! Good luck with it!
God Bless!
