Vannessa

I watched a girl at recess
her skin melting before my eyes

The kids at school said
her daddy did it
in a drunken rage

after all these years
I still remember her name

...and her scars

You have a knack for the whammy last line. I know the feeling. I was a teacher for a long time and saw what can happen to a child. A vivid thought with vivid words. Well done.

Thank you for your nice comments...they are truely appreciated I didn't know that the poem you wrote was about a student of yours...that's sad. being a teacher is a very important job ...I had a few teachers, growing up, that were there for me emotionally and really helped me. Its nice to know that there a great teachers out there that go above and beyond to help children and teens. It can be really tough growing up. I think we can often forget that.
