An airplane window
Dirty, smudged
How many eyes have gazed through this dingy pane?
Anxious to take off, anxious to arrive
Anxious to step back into the whirlwind of life
Annoyed by the intrusion, the time wasted....
Did they see the clouds below them?
Stretching endlessly for miles
A sea of fleece
With its own ebbs and tides
Forever changing; never once the same
One unique landscape, a single moment in time
Did they miss it?
The future robbing them of the beauty in the present.
How few were those that noticed the ice crystals?
Clinging to the window, only to melt before the dawn of tomorrow
Glittering purple and green and gold in the sunlight
Tiny rainbow prisms.
Suspended thousands of feet above the ground
Life put on pause
A chance to find wonder, to find joy
In something small, something temporal
Was it taken?
How many foreheads have leaned against this window
Feeling the cool, smooth glass
Looking but not seeing
The worries of tomorrow consuming them
But look- on the horizon sunset falls
And that shade of pink exists only in this moment.
Author notes
I actually wrote this on a plane- I noticed the ice crystals and was inspired. :-)

Marvelous! God's gifts are so bountiful! This reminds me of one time I was getting ready to land in Scranton, PA. On one side of the plane was a fabulous sunset, with clouds and all. On the other side was a night scene, with lights glowing all over.

This is a beautiful write full of appreciation for the wonders around us, as summed up by an unknown person who said "Yesterday is the past, tomorrow is the future, today is a gift from God, that is why it is called the present.
You have appreciated that gift.
