but my sight is clear.
My ears can catch no sounds;
but your words, I hear.
I have not left your side,
though I walk with God.
My lips are closed and still;
but I can still smile.
My feet do not carry me;
now I fly, agile.
I have not left your side,
though I walk with God.
My fingers have grown cold;
but my touch is warm.
My body does not live
for I am transformed.
I have not left your side,
though I walk with God.
You cannot hear my voice;
but it's raised in prayer.
Though you cannot see my form,
I am always there.
I have not left your side,
though we're worlds apart.
Please do not cry for me,
for I am in your heart,
and I walk with God.
Author notes
This is something I've had in my mind for a while, actually .. My great-grandpa passed away just a couple of weeks before Christmas, this past year, at 95, and while I wrote a poem for him then .. I think, given more time to heal, this is what I would've preferred to have read at his funeral. I'm not really a very "spiritual" person in general, but .. well, how can I not be, when it comes to the subject? I'm sorry for your loss, but celebrate the time you had with him, and cherish the time you have with your family!

This is very moving, and echoes the hope that we all have for our lost loved ones. It is comforting to think that those we love are now free from pain and suffering, in a better place and also watching us with love from wherever they are. And who knows? Maybe they are. This was really beautiful.
A heartfelt and emotional write. -

I agree about that line, I changed it once or twice already, but just can't seem to get it quite right .. everything I WANT to put has way too many syllables! Thank you for the constructive comment!
