This Night

The sky tonight is drowned in treacle-
        Star-mottled and
        quietly flamboyant

        Mother of pearl, heavenly woman
        shrugs free her cloak-
        Displays to the world
the silver shadow of her womb

        Cotton-fog in dolphin grey
        rolls lethargically over sloping hills,
Rustling breeze running rivets through grass
Whispers 'round the soft brown ankles
        of an unsuspecting fieldmouse.

        This night is beautiful-
        Determined to inspire!
But I miss you my love
and the night holds no magic
in the dark hush of your absence.
