At road’s fork,
Maker’s signpost
stands erect
with clarity’s
instruction.
Neither preference nor pleading
pivoting
easy downhill slope
to arrive
at gloried mountain’s peak
instead of shaded vale.
Choice changes chooser.
What I choose,
what I refuse –
twin witnesses
testifying inner adaptation,
accommodation, predisposition.
‘Til clothed with
daily weavings of habit,
I stand
full-gowned or
scanty-clad
to ev’ry discerning eye,
each reflective surface.
Author notes
We seek our own comfort zones and choose like-minded friends. Such society could define either heaven or hell. If self-evaluation falters, perhaps a thoughtful evaluation of those we most admire, and those with whom we choose to spend the most time, might serve as a valuable reflective surface.

Congratulations, dear Poet, on being ambushed by the Poetic Bandits.
I truly hope this mass visitation brings a smile to your face and a renewed confidence to your writing!
A thoughtful and philosophical piece. I had to re-read it several times to allow the full measure of its depth to penetrate my (addled) mind. Very cleverly structured with great expressions and metaphor.
So pleased I clicked on this one. Very much enjoyed its refreshingly different slant.
Well penned! Bravo!

I loved the imagery in these lines especially. Do we act as we always do, the easiest choice, or make the decision to step beyond the familiar, perhaps feeling uncomfortably exposed? This a reflective, thought-provoking piece, and I enjoyed it.

Great poem!
Very thought-provoking. Your poem, with its theme of choices and consequences, reminds me of Frost's "The Road Not Taken". Also in your alliterated line about "choice changes chooser" you reinforce the idea of every decision, every action along the road of life has a lasting impact. I really like the lines:
‘Til clothed with
daily weavings of habit,
How many of our choices are consciously made? or do we just make them by default or habit? Do we conform and adapt or make choices that we truly believe in and feel strongly about?
Well done and best of luck in the contest.

Thank you, BellaD!
As you note, it seems wise to occasionally evaluate our routine habits--do they lead where we truly wish to go?
I have found some I needed (and some I still need!) to alter for more positive and harmonious outcomes. Some are more entrenched and take more conscious effort to overcome! I'm gradually learning to 'see' into some of my "blind spots."
