We'll breath easy for a while.
Painful hearts still,
if just for a moment.
Cocktails of elation and jubilation
deplete our youth faster,
the drugs don't stand a chance.
Fifteen minutes of freedom
then a lifetime of pain.

You got me with the Spanish title, I do that with my poems some too

I like how much this says in so few words. There's a lot of simplicity to this poem and that makes the message all the more powerful. Love the use of cocktail and also its juxtaposition to drugs, though I'm not particularly fond of "elation and jubilation", that sounds too fancy for the rest of this poem. The ending has a lot of impact. Thank you for entering.
