Responsibility

There is a word that some just hate!
Its does not start with F or B,
Instead its rather rare these days,
Its called responsibility!

We, oh wisdom in a shell!
Treat life as if its but a game,
As long as we can use our rules,
And others get all of the pain.

That to which I now refer,
Which our passions oft produce,
A tiny, fragile, perfect life,
Is seen as a dependant noose.

With a drop of booze inside,
Inhibitions naturally hide.
A steamy romp with no protection
Leads to ‘mistakes’ which need ‘correction‘

Mistakes? Is that what you just said?
I prefer the word ‘baby’ instead.
With arguments you may try to hide;
The fact is there’s a life inside!

So now the silent holocaust kills on,
With too many tiny murders done.
And people turn, their eyes shut tight,
Blissfully lost in ignorance’s night.

Author notes

I have had writers block, so hope that this write sounds ok.
Talk about an emotive subject. This is longer than my usual rhyming poems, and am not sure whether it works, but here goes...When I searched for an image for this once again I was horrified at what people will do to an unborn baby.

umm I do agree with you that if someone makes the decison to have sex without protection and I wind up with child, they should have the sense enough to take care of their child. It's sad with all the information out these days and birth control, people are still making "mistakes".

Well, I think this long rhyming poem works! And yes this is a very emotive subject. I personally agree with abortion only because I believe women who are raped or victims of incest should have a choice about the unborn. However, I would not do it personally, and it does sicken me so how irresponsible people go around getting pregnant and will not, as you've sad, accept responsibility for their actions. In that case, I'm totally against it.

It's hard to believe you had writer's block because this is such a well written poem!!!

I'm not very good at poetry myself, but I love to come on this site and see refreshing work like this absolutely spectacular. I have a way of reading good poetry more then I have a way of writing it. Its a gift I guess lol. Keep up the great write and I will keep on checking out your poetry. ........: at yourself on the back::

youre a man you dont know anything abortion is not up for debate, it is a woman's personal choice if she chooses to let a human inhibit her body for nine long months, and people shouldnt nose with on their uncalled for opinions.
Besides, if the woman RLY didn't want the baby in the first place, enough to kill it, would you be peaceful knwoing that was how it would enter the already harsh world? This poem is full of regret, but to learn empathy you must put yourself in another's shoes. You must consider all circumstances(such as rape!), and cease your black and white vision....ok im done...

I am a man, but I also know a LOT about abortion. Sure, its the womans body, but it is a human life inside her, and a responsibility. Rape etc are very rare circumstances, and as for unwanted children, there are plenty of people unable to have kids who would love to adopt the child. Medical evidence, as it progresses, indicates that the unborn child can feel pain etc at much earlier age than first thought. Also, as a Christian, I believe that God recognises life before birth. I am quite happy to discuss my views with you should you wish, based on the facts. I also know a couple of people who had an abortion many years ago, and still bear the emotional scars even now, they deeply regret killing their baby.

Yes, there are many couples who wish to adopt but for some ridiculous reason the government makes it extremely hard to go through the system, and the reality is that the majority of unwanted children and shuffled into orphanages and foster care. They are abused, or their caretakers could care less about them. Even if they do find a good home its likely their shuffled off again, and that time to a bad home. Rather than years of hardship, feelings of abandonment and abuse, frequent thoughts of suicide, I think it is much kinder to do the unselfish thing and get rid of it if you are not ready to give 100% to the child born. And even so, we must be considerate of the mother if she will be willing to let the child inhibit her for months.
I dont think its fair you just say, "Oh, thats rare." I dont care if its one in a million, it happens, an options should be there for them. I really dont think it is anyones place to pass jusgement on the choices others make in their life.

In this world abotion is used as a form of birthcontrol to some but sadly there are women out there that do not have a choice to have a pregnancy removed I see all the pictures of aborted babies and then I turn around and hear of another baby died from the hand of an abusive father 3 months old and thrown into a wall because the baby would not stop crying. There are so many things wrong with this society and sadly the children that we can protect are dying by those that are to protect them blah anyway good write much love
