the old man walks alone now
along that stormy beach
he's mind a lost out yonder
as he thinks and thinks
he can hear here laughter softly
playing in the wind
see her smiling face
as if she were with him
it had only been a month now
since he had lost his love
they may have never married
but she had meant everything to him
she could never tell him
that her days were nearly up
that she had gotten cancer
and would soon be gone from him
so instead she toughed it out
with a smile on here face
and spent her last day's laughing
with him along that beach
he knew that he could not go on
without her by his side
so he took his last look at the beach
and whispered to the wind
and walked out into the waves
that he knew would swallow him
and prayed the lord his soul to keep
as he took his last breath in....

Beautiful piece, very very sad. I loved the last stanza, it just shows the depth of love. Thank you for entering.

In the first line of the second stanza, I think you intended "her" rather than "here".
I like the way you ended it with .... I think that played well against the picture in the mind of the ways coming in to take him.
A very sad tale that makes a person wish he would hang onto the happy memories a little longer and make it through.
Thanks for your entry. -
