Huey

I have this mate called Huey, a gentle sort of soul,
He's the one who makes the lightning flash
                    And lets the thunder roll.

"Send it down,Huey"is a shout you often hear
From a person on the bone dry ground
                  When clouds at last appear.

Huey has protected me since I was just a kid,
He has shielded me from bad injury
                  No matter what I did.

I slid down so many cliffs, fell from lots of trees,
And when I smashed my push bike up
                  I only skinned my knees.

Huey makes the grass grow, and all those lovely trees,
He makes the water in the rivers flow,
He sends the winds that freeze.

A common name for Mother Nature in Australia

This is a wonderful poem telling about someone we all need around at the moment. Great flow and all but, it seemed as if it needed to go on. It ended abruptly.Perhaps you had plans of coming back to this and forgot. Regardelss of this, it was a fine piece.

On reading this over again I can but agree with your thoughts that it ended rather abruptly. There is more to Huey than is written. Thanks for pointing that out, I guess I shall put it on my list for editing. I am slowly going over some of my old stuff and in some cases re-writing bits and pieces to tighten them up. Many thanks for always giving an honest comment, I look forward to learning from them.

You are very astute Bob, Huey will forever be in my heart. It's a colloquial name for the provider of all things natural. The rain, hail, water, rivers, the soil we walk on etc etc; everything. A tribute from one who has been cared for by that mysterious unknown, all my life. You have just made my day, Thank you, my friend.

This rhymes & flows beautifully, I think I have heard this expression. I would love to know where it originated. Nice poem.

The origin of the expression is unknown. It has been with me personally since about the beginning of the 2nd world war. No one can tell where it came from. Thank you for your comments and conversations.

Thank you again Jackie,Huey has been a name used for as long as I can remember but maybe not generally all over Aussie. Certainly in my neck of the woods its common.

Thanks Bob, I wondered if'Huey' would arouse any interest at all on the site. He is a colloquial character in parts of Aussie and not known in others. Still it's satisfying to know that I have the rhyme and rhythm reasonable. Thank you.
