The Dream

I feel the heat releasing from my skin as I lay there in the soft sheets. The memories of him caress my mind with a gentle rain as a dream creeps into my subconscious mind:

I see him looking at me with a blank expression, lying on a couch with his shirt off; jeans and no shoes, his soft skin illuminating from his hard body. As I walk slowly towards the man whom I have loved for so long, staring into his tranquilizing eyes, I fear for his reaction to my coming. I know that I had broken his heart, and I know that he thinks of me as a liar and a breaker of promises. And even though I have tried explaining myself hundreds of times, he still doesn’t believe me.

As I reach his side, my heart pounding, he opens up one of his arms; a gesture to have me be by his side. I lay myself on his chest, and he wraps his arms around my shoulder. Neither of us speaks, but we gaze at each other and examine one another as if it had been ages since we had seen one another. I place my hand on his chest and realize a tattoo by his right nipple. Its shape being an upside down triangle with two lines that were vertically above it and were more to the left than the middle. I trickled my fingers across the strange symbol and looked up into his beautiful eyes that were full of darkness and mystery. I reached my lips to his and placed my hands upon his face, feeling the warm embrace, not wanting to let go. He accepted the invitation, and as the taste of our passion passed through our lips that had longed for this reunion, our eyes closed and let our love run its course.

I pulled away gradually, and we both opened our eyes with ease. I felt this sudden warning; confused as someone came in to tell us of our future that we were not going to live much longer. I felt panicked and dazed, and didn’t know what to do. But he held me and as I looked at him puzzled with tears in my eyes, I saw the pain as I stared back at him. But his eyes told me that it was going to be okay. That he had me in his care, and that we were going to still be together.

We both got up, but he still held me in his arms as we walked towards the door. He looked down at me as the door opened, and I looked up at him with tears falling down my face. He smiled at me with glossy eyes and then I woke up.

Author notes

This was a dream that I really had. I stayed in bed for who knows how long, staring at my ceiling. Replaying it over again and again in my head so that I could see his face again.
