Lost And Found

Lost and Found

To day I found a memory
hidden for years beneath a dust of reverie.
A day in time so long ago
Why It came to me I do not know.
It was a perfect day one rarely seen
Like May Day for a King and Queen.
We went for a long long ride
I was comfortable by his side.
He said he wished we could go and hide
The life he had he no longer could abide.
I was young and so naive, but he wasn't lieing
No words could ruin this day it was his and mine.
We stopped at a nice place to stretch our legs and eat
He held my chair when we took a seat.
I don't remember what I ate,it wasn't a memory
I only cared that this day he had set aside for me.
We stopped at a carnival, and watched the crowd
People looked our way, I was oh so proud.
He didn't try to win a doll or a teddy bear
It was enough just to be with him there.
Time was running out the shadows were long
We went back to the car, in a moment we were gone.
The ride back home was quiet
As evening became night.
It had been a wonderful day
I wondered what he would have to pay.
It didn't cost me any thing but a day gone by
Tomorrow he would be gone I promised not to cry.
I wonder if he made it, if he lived through the war
All I knew for sure was that I wouldn't see him anymore.
But he turned up to day in a memory
I have to wonder if I am caught in his reverie.

This is a beautiful story and so very much worth the read. I would only suggest you remove the rhyme, since it is a bit stuttery in places and make it more of a prose piece or just a simple 'reverie' as you have called it. I love the ending line, questioning if he remembers you and this one perfect day together. A lovely write. I hope to read more. Peace, Rhonda
