Gorgie, porgie, a vision of wisdom or cheater
Gorgie, porgie, Ala commode
Gorgie, porgie, leave the abode
The cries of fault are endless in refrain
They emanate from mouths without restrain
Toss stones and bombs towards one man
Blame him for all wrong in the land
Gather your thoughts and respond
What would you have done, that he did wrong
I guess I don't know, because as you see,
I was just as convinced at the evidence, as was he
Weapons of Mass Destruction (WDM)
He said he had them, buried in the sand
He said he would use them ready to hand
He gassed his own a deliberate plan
Were we to ignore such murderous stands
He hired and sent assassins ill planned
To murder our ex-President, now and old man
His intentions were torture and power over all
and we took that from him and watched him fall
Now we are attacked by his friends
Those who like him more then us in the end
Daily they plant bombs in trucks
Daily they try to kill us
Do we cut and run from the fight
would such a retreat be cowardly or right
Well, lets us know as you now write
Was Gorgie, porgie such a blight?
Author notes
The National Intelligence Estimate said Saddam had WMD. Both House & Senate Intelligence Committees said Saddam had WMD. The CIA told us Saddam had WMD. The National Security Advisor told us Saddam had WMD. The FBI told us Saddam had WMD. Saddam told us he had WMD. The House of Representatives and the Senate both agreed, Saddam had WMD. So who were we or Gorgie Porgie supposed to believe? After all these thousands of people who were supposed to be the best spies in the world told us he had them....shit for brains is what we had. But, unlike some who wish a fall guy, I don't even try ... to cast the blame upon one man caught up in events totally unplanned. You can have the best advisors in the world but if all they feed you is manure, your decisions are just so much bullshit in the end.

Wow... Hmmmm... Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion. LOL As far as the poem... Nicely penned. Write on. One.

You know
I have read your poem & the authors note & am glad that you pointed out things that most have long forgotten. It seems this is now a political issue & those that voted for the war have cut and run & are getting a pass by the poeople. One thing I must say, as a guy that worked in the city I will never forget that day & wanted revenge. One of the guys I worked with, His brother a fireman lost 11 guys from his company. My neighbor saw people jumping from 104 floors up only to splatter like an egg on the ground. He says it will stay with him forever. My friends newphew, to this day, not a sign of him has been found. Yet many here have forgotten these people. But one thing I can say.. We have not been attacked since. But come this election I think 9/11 is going to look small compared to what is going to happen, here to us. Just my thoughts

It is interesting to note that more Americans have been killed in Iraq than were killed in the Twin Towers episode. And whilst the latter is over and done with, the former is far from finished. And if the crazy Israelis attack Iran, you will need a biggish computer to count the American deaths.

It surprizes me that despite the contest holder being categorically clear that he was seeking entries with alternate points of view and able to reference them in essay form that you instead entered a poem with the same views as Bush. However, that is just my perspective and I am no longer co-judge within the contest. Rather than mention all the pertinent points which I should like to make I feel dp robertson makes them outstandingly. I thoroughly recommend that you read his essay entered into this contest and digest each fact before dismissing it, as I would recommend every American read it. Whilst I hold alternative opinions to yourself they are not offered in a negative manner but hoping that a bridge of understanding is built as to the reality of events per se. I also highly recommend that you read General H.Schwarzkoppfs autobiography ( printed 1998) and pay particular attention the cabinent members who helped draw up the invasion plans of Iraq and then Iran.

Did you stop to think that when I wrote this I knew I would not qualify to win? Are you such a good judge of Bush you can speak for him? Wow. I thought you were just someone on this poetry site? Bush has the same views as me? Thats interesting. Wish he would have told me that. If he put it in writing I would have asked for his autograph.

Thank You
Thanks for the entry, Chuck. Of course, I agree with you. I don't think Bush has done everything right but I've never believed he lied about Hussein having WMD's, mainly because nobody likes to look like an idiot. Remember when Geraldo Rivera broke into Al Capone's vault and found nothing? He was a laughing stock. Aside from that, as you said, Hussein said he had WMD's, used them in the past, and threatened us with them. All Bush is guilty of is taking his word for it. If a cop pulls someone over and they say, "I have anthrax in my car. I just killed a bunch of people with it and now I'm going to kill you", the cop would be wise to take him down and search the car. Somehow, that same logic is not applied to the president. No, it was an "illegal invasion of a sovereign nation."
This was a fun contest, though. It gave me a chance to test my will power. I said I wasn't going to argue with anyone who posted an entry here and I haven't. Now I get to give trophies to people I don't agree with. Mostly, this contest was a sociological experiment because most people I've come across who believe conspiracy theories and blame Bush for everything under the sun have never thought about what they would have done if they were in his shoes after 9/11, and they certainly never give him credit for the fact that Al Quaeda hasn't even lit a firecracker on U.S. soil in the years since. I guess they're busy getting their asses handed to them in Iraq, or hiding in rat holes.
Anyway, thanks again. This was a pleasure to read.
Mark

Giving points to opposite views ...interesting experiment. It speaks very very well of you that your willing to do that. It says to all who receive them, all who read of them and all who just drop by, that you've attained a sense of balance. Now the truth is, those who espouse only one side with passion have not achieved that same sense of balance and thus are revealed in their fevor. Interesting huh!

" Now the truth is, those who espouse only one side with passion have not achieved the same sense of balance and thus are revealed in their fervour" Whilst this statement was not made to me personally I echo the thoughts. I am very close to a beloved American friend who voted for Bush, my friend became an alcoholic because he couldn't go to 'Nam because he was medically not acceptable as he was recieving treatment for cancer, yet he idolizes Bush who chose not to go, not because he was a conscientous objector ( like another dear friend, a Vet drafted despite his Bhuddhist beliefs and forced to go) but because he espouses the right to bear arms as long as someone is going to war on his behalf and as long as there are those willing to protect him with their lives. Apologies for adding my two cents but as you say, your views are complex and yet have a complex simplicity, mine have a simplistic complexity...
-
-
Thats a lot of simple views. Let me try to break them down...
1. Friend became a alcoholic due to lack of war.
2. Other friend forced to war.
3. War in Iraq was because Bush was safe at home.
4. War was because Bush wants people to bare arms.
Pretty much says it all.
My views:
1. Friend is a alcoholic because its a personal decision to raise that glass to his mouth.
2. Other friend did what millions had to do.
3. If it was my father that Saddam had tried to kill, I would have sent the marines too.
4. Damn all Republicans. Dang draft is always their fault.

Well said.
I am certain that at some point the WMD will be found buried in some remote site. Granted there are some things I would have done differently but who can say if my ideas would have worked either. I would have tried to use some of their troops in non combat situations to take some of the pressure off our boys, but how good could you screen them? Would we have just been letting enemies into our camp? Hindsight is 20/20 but this could have been a disaster too. I am a Bush supporter and I loved it when he landed the fighter on the carrier.

I did too! He was accused of grandstanding! Of course he was! Good for him! No matter what he does he is belittled by the media, who now are strangly silent with words against him as we are winning big time in both Afgan and Iraq. Wow! A silent attacker can be more dangerous then a vocal one, but in America they daily attack to achieve their own profit. Geeze, I hate the reporter who twists a story to the newspapers own benefit.
I know from contacting the guys in my old unit that translators were the greatest challenge in those days. Huge lump sums were paid to anyone who could even speak both languages, (more then one Iraq language). Lol. Can't imagine the unit commander confronted with hundreds of Iraq's trying to figure out who to trust? (no way man!) lol. Best to ya! -
Thank you
I think it may be a tab bit more complicated on the WMD. I agree they may be buried, but so many of his scientists are now residing in IRAN, and helping the nuclear program there that it is not unforseeable that they took the portable technology and computers and records there or Syira.
Someday, we may discover the truth and even the evidence or we may not. However, with that said, we have reaped some benefits from invading Iraq. We have freed the oldest country in world history and given millions freedom. We have established a people with self determination. We have secured the largest underground reserves of oil in the world. We have gathered millions of friends no longer under a dictator.
We have paid a high price, but compared to Vietnam, where we lost at one point in time 500 men a day, or World War II where we lost thousands in minutes. This is a backwater war. Tragic (completely) ironic (too true) a failure (far from it). I regret the loss of even one 18 year old fellow soldier. But, I recognize that we must pay to achieve results.
Once again, Thank you.
