In the darkness
where the people are kept
Put there by their own stupidity
The truth so easily hidden in its depth
They are fed with lies and encouragement
but bound by laws that make it seem as if they were free
but really they are slaves
There to rot so cluelessly
Sating their thirst with a false sense of peace
As they skip down a field of land mines
The world falling apart all around them
Not even aware that they are their own demise
But in the darkness you can see
The hands who'll save humanity
Who can see through the dark and past the lies
a glint of hope, like a star in the sky
Those hands, yet bound, are reaching
Arms raised toward the light
Fighting against the darkness
Fighting for what is right
Author notes
This is kind of based on the American government, because we were lied to about the Iraq war, and the government hides so much from us. But we put ourselves in this mess because we're the ones who actually voted for those people...

This was a pretty good poem, the meaning was good, however, all governments have to keep things from their people at times so that mass hysteria isn't caused. John Kerry would not have done any better and neither would Gore. One thing to watch would be the second lines of each stanza, those lines vary in length and the lack of rhythm with them kinda throw the flow os the poem off. good work though!
