The sun set low,
shining streams of marigold across the sands,
as shadows stretch out from beneath the boardwalk,
hand in hand they follow that liquid gold.
Dreaming dreams of new tomorrows,
planning just so for their goals.
Tendrils of water caress little feet,
minds lost in wonder forget about water so deep.
Little fishes flash bright around toes,
while laughter and sunlight draw them in closer
until up to their knees, no longer they stand,
falling instead down onto the sand.
All wet and bedraggled, with frightened wide eyes,
coughing and spluttering they hang from the arms
of their loving father.

This particular poem brings back memories of a holiday at Coolangatta in the early 70's. Beautifully written, so much so that I could feel the kids hanging onto me so they could stand.

Thank you. I wanted to do something a little bit different from my usual approach and achieved it thanks to your prompt.

Wonderfully worded poem that expresses how a father's love will overcome a soul and push fear of endangering his own life in order to save his children. great job with that given passage.
