HOBO BLESSING; Stranger at the Bus Stop

Let me tell you a story about a man I know,
we rode freight trains for a time, many years ago.
The man I will speak of was not brilliant of mind,
many who met him would call him slow but kind.

People that rode the rails called him by just one thing,
Hobo Blessing, who brings gifts from a heavenly being.
It wasn’t gifts of gold or silver or material things he’d give,
it was true miracles of faith to those who were chosen to live.

Each town we got off in, was the one that he would choose,
Panhandling for change to eat, catching up on local news.
But, one thing would always happen in each and every town,
that always keeps me glued to that hobo, following him around.

There were times when I would follow him for miles by his lead,
he would head in a certain direction with a compulsive need.
There was always a specific place, never once revealed to me,
I would just follow my special friend and watch and wait to see.

The places we’d go were either the rich up high or the poor down low,
It didn’t much matter whether it was a high-rise, a mall or skid- row.
I felt the direction he would go was not being determined by him,
I think, no I know that there was some kind of special force within.

The first time I had witnessed one of these gifts that he gave,
I remember thinking that this man was either crazy or brave.
As I watched in amazement, my soul was forever changed,
for what I witnessed was nothing short of heavenly ordained.

It was the middle of December with some snow on the ground,
when we approached a stranger waiting for a bus downtown.
My friend walked up to him and looked him right in his eyes,
and when the stranger started cussing, it was no surprise.

Between the verbal assault, I picked up a few important things,
It seems the stranger felt this gift Blessing was about to bring.
He told my friend that he no longer believed in his Christian faith,
that he couldn’t put his trust in something that is an utter fake.

He said he spent many years praying for a sick family friend,
only to watch them suffer for nothing and then die in the end.
He said nothing in this world would ever cause him to go back,
especially a filthy hobo who digs in other people’s garbage sacks.

But then all of sudden it happened, it was a sight to see,
with the stranger still cussing, my friend fell to his knees.
His head was now bowed, just inches from the mans feet,
he lifted his palms upward, as an offer for the two to meet.

The stranger’s rage hit a frenzied peak, when he spat on my friend,
I started to intercede on Blessings behalf when the miracle began.
There was just something, that wouldn’t allow this stranger to leave,
as I watched Blessings hands glow and his palms start to bleed.

This mans face turned pale, as Blessings light shot through his being,
it was like he’d seen a ghost or maybe something horribly obscene.
I watched his face suddenly relax, then a peaceful look appeared,
as my friend Blessing rose to his feet, and a small crowd cheered.

He gave the stranger a big hug and wiped away all his tears,
and then said four words that have always echoed in my ears.
He looked deep in that stranger’s eyes, I remember to this day,
Blessing said, “He Still Love’s You” then he just walked away.

The scene was repeated many times in the following years,
always the same result, with Blessing wiping away their tears.
Traveling with my friend, had been the best days of my life,
even now here today, so happy with my kids and my wife.

I believe that I was a witness to my friend’s heavenly deeds
that I should write an account of what true faith can do indeed
If this story didn’t convince you that heaven is here among us
stay tuned to the future tales of what this angel on earth does.

    UPLIFTING!

This is absolutely beautiful my friend. Usually my attention span is short, but this kept me reading til the end, which literally brought tears to my eyes. The story you told is a wondorous one indeed. God will always love us no matter what we do. All we need to do is give our lives to Him and He will reward us with many blessings. This is a wonderfully written poem with our Lord receiving the glory. God Bless you my friend. Your friend in Poetry, Mysty Rain
