Soft, softer, softest

Wisps of mist enwreathe the pine and fir
before the sun bursts over mountain side;
in night, in shadow, on the rocky slope
the darkness cannot overcome her hope.
Memories of light and roses stir
and swirl amid the turbulence inside;
she paints the images of her desire
to touch the moonlit lovers' night with fire.

Loveliness of friends and flowers blur
in tears of losses borne on ocean's tide.
A tender heart grows softer in its woe,
awareness sharing feeling in its flow.
Burning brings the fragrance out of myrrh,
its essence fixed by patience while it dried;
her insights sharpen, Karen walks in grace,
and gathers all the world in her embrace.

    This is an epitome of my goal in writing. I want to write poems for others for them to see the beauty in them, the grace in their ways, the blessing that they are. This, this is it. So wonderfully written, so insightful, so heartwarming. I hope I can write something like this someday. It made me so intrigued about Karen that I tried to find who she is and read some of the poems written for her, and now I know that a beautiful spirit inspired this piece. I'm glad I came this way today.

    mornings and blessings,
    joy

      Thank you Joy. Karen is a special one who sees beauty in others and is able to write it for all to see. Many of the poets who wrote for her had been the subjects of her poems. I'm glad that my poem inspires you to know her better.

    Love couplet at end...

    Did I get that right? I'm still a bit poetically vocabulary challenged. You're an intellectual poet and gifted and talented writer.

    You are such a tender heart, such an impressive writer, such a grand friend, MargaretG. Karen is already blessed...with your friendship. Beautifully done, Lady. Good luck in Tom's contest, Sweetie. Always a pleasure to see you. Wanda

  • Mist upon the roses here...

    You write with so much insight of those things I wrestle, the wonder of miracles made mine, the beauty in my journey that blossoms daily though the touch of friends, family, the place I live.... I can only hope that tenderness grows with the challenges life demands. Those dear hearts who buffer me from desert winds are so cherished. They make love my reality with an essence so much more than I could have dreamed.

    Across the mountains, the restless seas, the winds of human dissent...may gentle arms enfold you, my cherished friend!

    I am so touched by this lovingly eloquent treasure...a gift of myrrh, a gift of love.

    Thank you, Margaret.

    Much love,
    Karen

  • Margaret, knowing this is for our beautiful friend made it all the more beautiful. I know so little of the mechanics of poetry, but I know when something has truly touched my heart. Your love for Karen is so apparent in this lovely piece, the imagery so true to what Karen writes and who she is.

    Builds up really well to the final couplet, which has an echo of "she walks in beauty, like the night". But grace is a finer quality than beauty, which is only skin-deep after all.
    I don't know klassy lassy, but I wish her all the best. She's certainly got some classy support in these stanzas.
    Well done. A true, dignified tribute is a rare thing.

    These octave stanzas pay a sturdy tribute to Karen, Margaret. Imagery of natural elements are communicated softly as your title and its objective designate. No line is less lovely than another!
    I admire your rhyme: ab cc ab dd and ab ee ab ff.
    You have used alternate end rhymes with varied rhymed couplets. Reading aloud, I found the whole melodious.
    Even the cc and ee rhymes are rounded vowel assonantal rhymes. Musicality and dignified iambic pentameters lend this poem a quiet splendour.
    Ron.
