All that we experience in life
cannot be filled with only joy
nor are we to know only sorrow
we cannot realize one without the other.
To live life to our fullest
one must be as passionate in their tears
as they are in their joys laughter
lend to your hearts emotions freely.
Ask that you may understand your journey
not that your path be only in one direction
but in its course, you learn to accept
and travel either fork in the road with faith.
To expect your choice of roads be all good or all bad
will lead you to disappointment and failure be your mode
accept that both roads will teach life's lessons
crossroads, then are only points of a compass.
Let not your travels through life
be for self want and need
but self enlightenment and giving
not all skies will be sunny
nor will all be gray.
cannot be filled with only joy
nor are we to know only sorrow
we cannot realize one without the other.
To live life to our fullest
one must be as passionate in their tears
as they are in their joys laughter
lend to your hearts emotions freely.
Ask that you may understand your journey
not that your path be only in one direction
but in its course, you learn to accept
and travel either fork in the road with faith.
To expect your choice of roads be all good or all bad
will lead you to disappointment and failure be your mode
accept that both roads will teach life's lessons
crossroads, then are only points of a compass.
Let not your travels through life
be for self want and need
but self enlightenment and giving
not all skies will be sunny
nor will all be gray.
Author notes
Kahlil Gibran “…a tear and a smile”
http://oldpoetry.com/opoem/57387-Khalil-Gibran-A-Tear-And-A-Smile
“I would not exchange the sorrows of my heart
For the joys of the multitude.
And I would not have the tears that sadness makes
To flow from my every part turn into laughter.
I would that my life remain a tear and a smile.”

There is some good use of imagery here, the forked road stands out to me as the kind of choice we all seem to face and this brings a thoughtful idea of faith and acceptance. Very well written. Thank you for this fine entry into the contest and best of luck in the judging...PK
