What good is love kept secret?
An urgent need not met?
An unrequited yearning?
A kiss I can’t forget?
Some day no chains will bind me
prisoner of the past
‘Til then I’ll journey lonely
with dreams of you held fast
For once my thoughts are focused
if memory serves me right
Does not the night grow darkest
just prior to daylight?
I pray my fate has mercy
and gives me one more chance
To feel your arms around me
and share that sweet romance
For if I can not love you
I’ll never be quite sane
My mind shall not be master
o’er my heart again
Author notes
Have you ever loved someone and not been able to express the depth of your feelings in calm, rational, logical terms because there are none?

All the best...Sue and Jeff

excellent metre...
...and terrific rhyme. You have mastered the writing of this poem perfectly.
I can relate to the theme and I like the way you have expressed it in your rhythmical words. It leaves me feeling whimsical.

YEAH!
Yes I've been there, I once had this relationship with a man that was so tumultuous. We lived in the French Quarters and fought in the street like mad dogs, then made up passionately. It was in my CRAZY youth. It was not a "sane" relationship .
You are a very talented poet.
Thanks for sharing,
Jennifer

Until you get over the old, you will never find the new. Even if she is right in front of you, you wont see her.
Live for today Leo. -
Who hasn't?
This is your after coffee poem, the remains of late night thoughts...and I see the night worked well, even though you yawned at 5am

Leo, you do know how to tug at those heart strings. I can't imagine that there isn't anyone who hasn't felt this way at least once in their lives. One can't help but to be pulled onto memory lane as they read. Another read that flows as smooth as silk. Yes love does and can make us crazy. Beautiful!

This is just lovely ...
and although the twinge of hurt is there ... so is the beauty of living with love in your heart and that makes a world of difference to perception. Your thoughts are well-shared poetically and your form and rhyme suit me well! I wear the clothes. joy

That was just beautiful... I loved it so much... you are very talented... bravo to you... bravo... later... -
Amazing, and Powerful
For me love is always complicated. You could say I put myself in my own asyulm so that I don't fall in love. I have trust issues and also like being single. This poem is a great example of what I wish i could be. Very well written and I hope to read more of your work.

Ah, Lady Love is fickle, isn't she! When love is not returned it can truly break a heart. Your words are touching, as always, Leo.

-
Leo, you are not by any way alone! "I pray my fate has mercy and gives me one more chance" funny you should write this. Last night I dreamt of a long lost love (HAven't for years) and for some reason clicked on your verse. The timing for me wasn't right, and when it was, I was already married and afraid to do what I wanted. YOUTH! Today, it would have been a different story. I try to think of him as my "other" life. THe pain of not having him still is there like a pesky cob-web! POignant poem!

Unrequited Love ...
has its own laws, and it is found in this poem in the first line of stanza two: Some day no chains will bind me.
And the solution lies in the final two lines: My mind shall not be master/o'er my heart again.
You write with the smooth flair of the timeless Bards.

May your future bring you happiness, Leo.
Love
Myra
