Of Lungs Enchanted

I wrote for you in amber cliffs
above dream's desert waves
of winter,

like gull
in search of one last poem,

winded drum of African contrition,

my opaque fusion
from last, lost call,
expressing sea, as deeper ending,

aperture closed to solitary well,

and inhalation
of opposite poles, defusing continent,
through insane inhibition,
and human condition;

our subtle contrition,
obscured through wilder soul-inversion
and barren manipulation,

hoping for our hands
to touch.

I am cold in recollection,

like skin pricked,
in arthritic fingers,
as bumps of wisdom,

elegant shore, and rustic river,

eloping to dance in sandy bubbles
holding spheres of sacred echoes,

popping wish to find sweet heaven,

we once spoke,
as next page turning,
in book to bare our first,
great freedom.

I still sigh
when spring comes close,

my Rocky Mountains,
singing nature,
in fresh snow-melt,
as captured moonlight,

melting song
released in grateful grooves
of scented granite,

escaping memory's nonsense
as such my lips could never bear
to breathe, as flower;

our hour
passed,

when time was still, as Cupid's arrow,

in hillside, golden flames of quaking aspen,
whispering lines

of lungs, enchanted.

The wist I feel reading this burns my eyes, and I'm feeling foolish for melting, but knowing, too, "I still sigh when spring comes close...escaping memory's nonsense as such my lips could never bear to breathe, as flower;" and knowing I will not breathe at all if I do not.

Enchanted lungs, I've only dreamed in wordless wonder, you spill in Rocky Mountain ferver.

This is truly well done. Each road flow from one to the other along with each line draws the reader farther. Towards the end one find's one's breadth escaped in a a realm of intense imagery. All the best in comp-

Okay...after reading this exceptional poem, I quit! This is just stunning. Every meticulous metaphor, every emotion filled word, every brilliant image it plants in our mind's eye.... You've taken my breath away with this, Richard. Beautiful doesn't begin to do this justice. Simply amazing....

Sighhh...Exquisite & heart~wrenching. I am so glad I didn't read any of the entries before I submitted mine; my courage would have lagged in humble disarray. So beautiful, tender & lovely, dear Scribe of the Sacred Mountain's Memories. Good luck in Trina's contest, my forever Friend. Wanda
