sleeping in the alley
whilst the rain was pouring down.
She decided to take him home
and set him before the fire,
if only to make him feel human.
All she knew of this man,
was the smile behind tattered clothes
as people passed with nonchalance.
He may as well have been a statue,
watching the city spin around him,
standing there on the corner
with a hat in hand to catch stray change.
She handed him trousers and a shirt
that she found in the attic
and showed him to the washroom.
She smiled, walking to the kitchen
to put on a pot of stew.
Just as she was serving dinner,
she was stunned to see
this handsome gentleman walk in.
He had the same humble eyes,
but as he pulled out her chair,
she stood, mesmerized
by the charm of this stranger
who seems to have stolen her heart.
Forgoing small talk for silence,
looking deep into each others eyes,
trying to decipher what exactly it means
to feel such enchantment.
After having satisfied their hunger,
she invites him to retreat into the den,
where several candles adorn the marble mantle.
Open fire now radiating generous warmth
and the glow of embers,
mirrors the crimson drapes
that frame the bay window.
Amazed at the transformation,
she could not help but hold her gaze steadfast,
whilst he spoke of circumstance and fate.
She reached to comfort him,
her hands seeming so small within his
as she traces his journey in admiration
with her delicate fingertips.
He savors the softness of her touch.
Then by some twist of fate
they were drawn to each other
with such a force of indisputable passion.
She impulsively draped her frame into his lap,
staring upwards as if mapping his face,
so that she might remember every detail
should this be their first and only encounter.
Whilst the subtle glow of moonlight
begins to seep through frosted windows,
He leans forward,
as though driven by destiny - not instinct,
it is now, this perfect moment in time,
that lips finally meet with a tender, knowing caress
and the light from the candles
fade into the darkness.

It was a pleasure to write with you, the only editing that was required was to paste each others additions into MS word.
