I am a Ragdoll.
With long, delicate hair
(Brittle and falling off my head)
With long limbs and slender frame
(emaciated and malnourished)
with colourful maquillage
(to conceal an unhealthy pallor)
and vibrant quirky dresses
(to cling onto childhood)
I am a Ragdoll
(but the doctors call me anorexic)
With long, delicate hair
(Brittle and falling off my head)
With long limbs and slender frame
(emaciated and malnourished)
with colourful maquillage
(to conceal an unhealthy pallor)
and vibrant quirky dresses
(to cling onto childhood)
I am a Ragdoll
(but the doctors call me anorexic)
Author notes
This is a poem I wrote during my recovery of a long battle with anorexia, I really felt I needed to be self-reflexive, in order to understand fully what happened when writing about my experience, and I have come to realise that I was trapped in my own world for a very long time, and that almost resulted in my downfall.

I thought this poem was truely wonderful, it goes a long way to show that what you see is not always a true representation. I loved the use of the bracketed lines and thought that it really conveyed the two faces of the poem and illness. I thought the line "emaciated and malnourished" was a wonderful summary that really captures what it is like to be sick. I know only to well the benifits of self reflectance in recovery and I am glad you have managed to overcome this and produce such a wonderful piece in the process. Great Work and Best Wishes.

Very good
I like your imaginative critique of yourself followed by your realistic view showing how the glamor of anorexia is really just a mirage
