Optimist, WE Salute YOU

The emerald beauty of Washington State,                                                   Mt.St.Helens

Is undeniable and true.

Ancient forests and pristine lakes flow

through and through.

Residents of Eagle, Bear, and Spawning Salmon

typlify the mankind that reside within her hearth.

Noble evergreens, fir strength, natures willow

and graceful birch.

To live amid such beauty is truly an inspiring gift.

It is with honor and respect we tend our mother earth.

Dwelling in this land is dams of realists,

and barking seals of pessimists.

Standing strong in the glaring mist,

is the Mt. St. Helens Optimist.

Impossible to ignore, a silent thunder dome

rebuilds without permission or excuse.

Confronting us with attitude,

and hopeful point’s of view.

Are the storms of life we face,

more important then learning,

how to dance in it's midst.

Joyfully celebrating,

the tap dance

of showered lessons,

learnt.

Dance you beautiful... Optimist...dance!

Contest prompt: Happiness amidst the storms.
and dang if we are not getting more then our share of
rain,rain,rain, cold and glooomy rain.

So thankyou for this contest, it really led me to some
powerful imagery and thoughts about choosing whether to
dance in it or allow it to gloom and consume.

way to prompt us!

Greeting from another Washingtonian. Great write but I didn't see much in there about The Great Inland Empire. It is beautiful too. I loved it.

This was wonderful, I like the imagery of how one can either be excited by, or become forlorn by

natures fury happening all around us. this was a lovely
poem, good luck in the contest.

A "Nature" poem that pulls away from the usual nice words to make us think deeply. The coldness of the mountain gave me a shiver but I can feel your joy in it. Nicely written. However (here I go again) we need to look at the apostrophes lurking in those incorrect places and, therefore, disturbing your actual meaning.....It’s residents of Eagle, should read: Its residents of Eagle, otherwise you are writing It is residents of Eagle.
Noble evergreen’s, Fir strength, nature’s willow...evergreens doesn't take the apostrophe but you have it correct in nature's willow. Finally - I just love your "barking seals of pessimists.

Oh I really liked this poem. You did a beautiful job with the imagery. I felt like I was there at Mt. St. Helens myself. It felt wonderful.

This is just brilliant here. You are so full or encouragement for those whom are suffering through the storms of life in reality as well as in the weather. Thank you Kathleen for sharing with me for I so enjoyed this poem.
