The Drowning

I'm asking for a simple breath
That's all I want to take
I need air to breathe
Mother, can't you see me suffocate?

The water is drowning me
It started off slow
Like a small wade in the water,
But then it started to grow

Water's rising slowly,
It's almost going above my head
Mother, I cannot swim
Help me, or else I'm dead

I'm trying really hard to keep my head up
And I'm trying not to complain
But it's impossible to swim up for air
When you're held down by a chain

There will not be enough time
The water is about to engulf me
Please, lend me a breath of air
I can't swim up, the chain is too heavy

Mother, what are you doing?
Why are you letting go of my hand?
What did I do to deserve this?
Just please bring me up to land

And the sad part is
The one who chained me here was you
And so I struggle as I take my last breath
And pray that you go through this torture too.

What do you think of my poem?
