Gazing at the moon
Each night, before retiring, at the moon I gaze.
The colors round it captivate and soothe my heart.
I long to reach my hand up to the sky and raise
myself into the universe to be a part.
The more I look, the brighter do those hues appear
to swirl around the edge and show their colors bright.
I always watch in awe and wonder why it’s clear
to some and not to other folk who view the sight.
Is it a sign that says our world will one day change
or only an illusion that but few can see?
All those who can’t believe their eyes may think it strange
and yet it looks so very beautiful to me.
The universe has many splendid sights out there
with galaxies so vast that nothing can compare.

A lovely poem, Joan
Though I'm surprised that more readers have not seen the colors of which you write. I see them... not always and not always the same but they're there.
Your sonnet is lively and well written. A nice piece for the contest
Dee

Dear Dee, Yes the colours are always lovely. The only time I don't see them is on a rainy night, even when it's cloudy they can still be seen through the clouds that show the different hues.

Your sonnet is so very beautiful I have not seen such colorful auras as that...I wonder if they are only in the southern hemisphere...good luck in the contest...

Dear Darlene, you should be able to see them as Dee says that she can, so look at the moon on a clear night and you should see the aura's.

Dear Joan,
I love your beautiful sonnet about the moon! I have never noticed colors around the moon (I feel deprived now). I do notice the aura that appears around it especially in the winter. I was told that when there's an aura around the moon, that means it's going to snow (but not necessarily in my area). There's so much we've yet to learn about the mysterious universe. I really enjoyed seeing the moon from your point of view!
Love and Hugs,
Maureen

Dear Maureen, The Aura's you mention sound like the ones I see here in Australia, but I see them every night, some nights the colours change, the more I stare at the moon the more aura's I see.

Dear AJ,
I love you poem about the moons aura, I see them too and they are magnificent. I think the picture goes well with your poem.
Good luck in our contest.

Dear Bea.
That young girl gazing at the moon
may catch her death of cold quite soon
for, though being naked does no harm,
the moon won't keep her very warm.
Unlike the sun, the moon is cold -
she lacks that cloak of fiery gold
and, though her silver sheens at night,
I have to say she's not that bright!
The colours round her, that appear
in spite of lack of atmosphere,
can oft' sweet lovers' trysts enhance
with mystery and soft romance...
but with the sun she can't compete.
Whoever heard of 'Lunar Heat'?
Forgive me for my rather cynical response to your fine romantic sonnet which I believe is your first venture into iambic hexameter and which is meticulously crafted. There is much in the universe that is beyond the scope of our limited comprehension but which, to me, proves the omnipotence if its awesome Creator.
Applause for your fine poem, love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)

Dear Hugh, if you look closely she is not naked, she does have a bikini top on and perhaps thongs, I think the mods would've removed her otherwise.
Thankyou for your Sonnet reply, it's very lovely.

The moon is beautiful, whether I see it night or day. Your thoughts are very interesting, Joan, I have not taken note carefully of the colours. I hope a change is imminent. Best of luck!

Dear Sweetpea, I love looking at the moon before I go to bed and to see all the colours that are around it. Blue, gold, green, orange, purple are some of the colours I see.
Thank you sweetheart for your lovely words.

Beautiful sonnet, so beautiful I didn't notice that it was a sonnet (caught up in the poem) until the end. Smoothly written, mixtures of wistful, beautiful, classically romantic, optimistic, wondering images...and all the other good "fuls," "ics," and "ings."

The moon gets a lot of attention, I will write one about Neptune or distant galaxy 55-3545.2
beautiful.
