Presidents on wooden crosses
hanging in the lawn
white house burn
the world will turn
all the kids are gone
I sit out on the front porch
with a bible in my hand
saying prayers to unknown gods
that live in desert sand
In the land of plenty
the cupboards are all bare
over there they stop and stare
at the great Satan in its lair
Praying for a rapture
to lift me to the sky
all the dead in Christ arise
but none of them know why
Just like Job we lose it all
then get it back again
crying out to justify
a life lived without sin
All the kings and captains
who stand at battle's fore
pray for peace and live for war
and trample on the poor
I sit on the front porch
with my troubles in my hand
looking for the end of days
but I don't understand
why the world turned out this way
with Abel fallen down
Cain will stand to walk the land
with God's mark as a crown

Do you ever feel that most of your biblical alliterations are lost? I know one commenter stated that they thought they caught them, but I don't know, did they? You start off political but it could have a deep sense of what the world used to be and now has lost, our world, I mean. The second stanza for me is as if the tribe of Ishmael has overtaken this land. The third is modernly hopeless as if we will fail and only the rapture could provide an escape. The fourth seems to aim at politically failed agendas again. The final seems to walk away from just assured childlike faith and frown on the world as it exists. I assure you Abel is fallen down and Cain is roaming around out there, somewhere and cannot be touched. This to us is the grace of God no matter how much we don't understand. I do not know if you are a fan of eschatology, my son is not. He lives in the, 'we will take over as believers' world with no rational, at least to me, with little beginning or ending to the story. I guess I am to black and white and just old school concrete for reformation theology. At any rate, this is why I thought my affiliation with you would only bring me harm. I'm a pretty good judge of what will 'get' me. RC

Well,
I like the second to the last stanza the best; it's really true. It brings to mind memories and history studies...I think I'll do my MA on Military History...I think you've started a spark for the fuse of productivity...Good job!

While I am a total a non-believer in god and Jesus Chist! I respect the ideals and ideas put forth in this outpouring. Great work.

A thought provoking Write!! I think I understand most of the Biblical references, but am going to have to look up the mark God gave Cain. Thanks for making me think...

when cain was expelled to the land of Nod, he protested to god that ge would be a wanderer that any man who found him would kill. God replied that he would place a mark on Cain so that all who saw him would understand that he was under divine protection, and that anyone who killed him would suffer a revenge seven times over

First murder that lead to man's fall. Hard to imagine why we were created at all. The folly of man and war will be our own undoing...just sometime soon. ~Sie
