Mommy calls me princess whenever I cry
Today I made a new friend who shares
He’s name is Ethan and he lives down stairs
This house has special magic to me
We even lock the door with a golden key
Anny
Author notes
We moved to a place on the first floor about a week ago. Aneka was so excited and loved the place from the very first time she laid eyes on it.
The golden key is actually a Brass "police man". A little piece that fits into the keyhole for security. As you take it out the door it is attached to the key.
Whenever I help Aneka to "write" her poems, I will sit down with her [4 years old] and ask her to draw a picture. From there I ask for the first line, followed by "Matching words" - we say that for rhyming, and then the second line usually follows.
Believe me it takes a while and sometimes I crack myself laughing with the things she can come up with.
Thanks for reading
Aneka & Rebekah-Ann

Wow, this is amazing for one so young. I love how you expressed your love for your new house. I am sure that you will grow up to be a great poet one day. To the mother: It is such a wonderful thing you are nuturing Anny's love for poetry at such a young age! Great poem and congratulations on the gold!

Shocking and Promising
To start with, any piece of writing is special seeing as it has a certain sentimental value to whoever wrote it! It follows that this specific piece of writing was written by a four year old and is actually quite genious if u look at it from a certain point of view. First it displays a child's innocent view of a carefree world. On a deeper basis, this poem represents a person's sanctuary or sanctum which to him/her is usually sacred and perfect, and according to the way this "castle" is described it seems to be immacualate containing all what the young writer seems to want at this point in her life. This is evident to an extent that she believes it deserves being locked using a "gold key".
From a more philosophical point of view, the "castle" represents "Utopia" an early Platonic theory and vision which incinuates living in a perfect flawless world.
I am compelled to believe that the child who has written this beautiful poem is a genious and will grow up to be a Great poet.
Truly Breathtaking!!!

AWWWWWWW
this is so cute and it really shows how children see the world different then us. what happened to us? i guess as we get older, we see the world in a omore boring, less miraculous way. i think that its great that shes so young but is already writing. i look forward to reading more of your poems, keep uo the good work.

-
Wow!
I work with children aged 5 to 10 daily. Few of them can match this. I like the way you go about it and give you lots of credit for sitting down with Aneka and encouraging her this way. She will remember that time with you. You are giving her a wonderful ability that will help as she gets older.

-

Oh, this is absolutely wonderful. I miss those days, those lazy, fun-filled days of childhood. Where every little thing was so full of magic and beautiful mystery. The poem itself is very sweet, and pretty well written. Congratulations, Anny, you have an awesome mother who is opening your eyes to the excitement of writing. Listen to her, and keep putting effort into finding those "matching" words, for, though you may not become a poet, the joys of the poetry that was mingled with your childhood will stay with you long after you have become a "grown-up." Thank you both for taking me to your "castle in da sky."

This should win. It has the innocence of a child all over it. I envisaged a wide-eyed little girl taking her first steps, in writing.
Opening up her imagination. Such a wondrous thing to be a child again. We all must strive to keep that innocence. It is a beautiful poem. Full of imagery. And it made this dark writer smile.
Well done, honey. Keep writing and never stop.

The best thing one can do is to encourage others to find their own words. That might poetry or stories or many other things, but when they find what they love, it make you feel the best ever! The Shaker

This is awesome. It looks so deceptingly simple but it is profound. And for Aneka's age, this deserves congratulation. She's cut for a bright future as a poet. Thanks for the collaborators, the simplicity was not compromised with adult-speak.
Luv u Aneka.

Anny
What a lovely, imaginative poem! You know, I have never had a golden key. Brass ones; but never golden!
I could never have written rhymed couplets like this when I was staying in a house on a hill when I was very ill!
Tell Becks that I say 'hello' to her, too.

-
-
She doesn't think Brass is any different to gold
