silence,
submerged senses;
scents, sensations, taste,
all –
stolen hence.
But sight!
What glories undreamt
dance between the planes!
Phoebus ignites each ripple
to flickering flame;
ambers, golden ochers, mossy tans
reply from shallow depths
in tea-steeped glows,
aurous chimings of color and light.
Here, daystar face
smiles on raptured eyes,
bids bind, not blind,
awed weightless wanderer.
Then,
snatched!
Choke and sputter -
fetching fist
fought flight to falls,
wide-eyed wonder buried
in cries and screams,
shakes and hugs,
chastisement
and the chill cloak
of an unknowing breeze.
Author notes
I fell into a forest-hemmed river as a child. One of our party raced along the bank, and caught me shortly before the falls.

I love that you love words!
Your use of compound and complex imagery in this poem is masterful, especially "aurous chimings of color and light".
The development of the story was also well shared. This was no aimless stream, but one with a dramatic climax!

This caused an explosion of my senses...
I could see the whole vivid display
clearly in my mind's eye. The use of
colour and abstract complexity entranced me.
Thank-you so much for sharing your gift. Blue
