Parallel Lines

hours stretch before me
with a string of days behind
the sickle moon sets
over the onion domes
of Red Square

she sleeps
while I watch over her
[the nightmares make me edgy]

I have known her three years now
and better than she knows herself
[perhaps more deeply than I know me]

the cerulean blue rings
that surround
her cornflower irises
the eight little bumps
she didn’t know she had
around her left areola
and the six on her right
it’s not that we’ve met
I just knew

pale skin
of pussy willow feel
a faint spiced jasmine scent
tasting of pomegranate

I know her hopes
  her fears
    her joys
      her pains
what lovers she had
and what children she bore
and what children she didn’t

in the spatial formality of our world
we live parallel lives
and like parallel lines
we never touch
but still we dream
