"If I should take a notion
To jump right into the ocean
Ain't nobody's business if I do
If I go to church on Sunday
Then cabaret all day Monday
Ain't nobody's business if I do”
The words in this song inspired me a long time ago
When I realized if you live your life for someone else
Then you're not being true to yourself
You'll end up confused and filled with woe
"There ain't nothing I ever do
Or nothing I ever say
That folks don't criticize me
But I'm going to do
Just as I want to anyway
And don't care just what people say"
No matter if to others I seem kind of odd
I know I won’t please everybody every time anyway
So I listen to my heart and hear what it says
Unless illegal I only have to answer to God
"If my man ain't got no money
And I say, "Take all of mine, Honey"
Ain't nobody's business what I do
If I give him my last nickel
And it leaves me in a pickle
Ain't nobody's business if I do"
"I'd rather my man would hit me
Than follow him to jump up and quit me
Ain't nobody's business if I do
I swear I won't call no copper
If I'm beat up by my papa
Ain't nobody's business if I do"
Okay, Okay I'm not feeling those last two verses
They might have thought like that around 1952
You see my money is mine, and hopefully his too
Beat me up, %^$#&*^^, please forgive my curses
New Generations still listen to her music today
I love this particular song as I love all her music
She had a gifted voice yet she chose to abuse it
Only once in a life time do a Billie Holiday come your way
Author notes
Stanzas 1,3,5,& 6 are the actual words to the song
