And now, the News…

I find myself berating
all the things frustrating
that bombard me every day
on the Nightly News!

I hear rising prices at the pump
has made public ridership jump
but I don’t see it on the highway.
I still sing the commuter blues.

But that doesn’t hold a candle
to the latest political scandal
as another public figure
is placed before our view.

Do I need to know the detail?
Can’t we just put him in jail?
You know that’s what would
happen if it was me or you!

They can’t even get together
on a forecast for the weather.
Just look out $#@! window!
You don’t need to be a sleuth.

When did the nightly news
become someone’s personal views?
What happened to a concept
called “the truth?”

They’re enthralled with the glory
of having the “breaking story”
that words are said before
they even look.

I think I will protest.
My TV set I will divest.
I’ll ignore them all and
just read a good book!

Love the picture! Your poem has its little road bumps as far as its flow, but the rhyme is perfect. I enjoyed reading this probably more because it's the exact way I feel. In fact, the nightly news is exactly why I did go back to reading more. I have a couple of really good books I can recommend.

I could go on and ammend your whine to fit mine, but I think you've made your plight known very well. Thank you so much for entering this wonderfully interesting piece into my contest. Patricia

I hear ya big guy! lol And you're right. That's why I'm lacking in current events unless I read the newspaper, which is full of a bunch of bullshit too mostly anymore. Good poem and I wish you all the luck my friend!
