I first noticed her
As she stood, slightly hunched
In front of me
She cackled, faintly,
Cast a wicked grin
As I selected
My very first pair
Of reading glasses.
Her familiar hands
Appeared rather gnarled
As they took hold
Of my new purchase.
She had been here all along
Previously hidden within taunt skin
Her power, now on the rise
I suddenly knew
It would be
These fragile knobby hands
That would hold
Enough strength
Wisdom and love
To carry me Home.

Very cool!
This is a subject I don't really know anything about, but your title gives me information it would be difficult to get into the poem otherwise, so I really appreciated that.
I'm afraid the title might, perhaps, make people less likely to view the poem unless this was a subject they are interested in, which would be a shame because there's a wonderful story waiting within.
Thanks so much for your entry and good luck in the contest...and, welcome to AP!
I hope you meet just as many wonderful people and spend a lot of happy hours on the site just as I have.
Best wishes,
~J
