What I would have done differently

I would have paid more attention to my Generals than to Donald Rumsfelt,
I would have screened and put into training then service the disgruntled Iraqi troops  who surrendered so easily. They could have been used guarding Utilities and the borders of Syria and Iran. Some would have been valuable in house searches as they knew the customs.
I would have expelled or detained any foreign nationals that could not show strong ties to the community.
As for Katrina, would I have usurped the rights of the states and took over before they asked? No.
As for graft and corruption in government, it predates every administration and few congressmen dare challenge it and the bad ones use it. No one can even put a dent in it in eight years.
This reminds me, I am going out and send a Thank you card to the President. God knows he earned it.

    THANK YOU

I agree with your ideas. This was short and to the point but strongly delivered. I've sent a thank you card to the president, too. Some people need to thank him for keeping us safe since 9/11, especially since a traitorous media keeps telling us we're not any safer despite all the evidence to the contrary. Thanks again for this refreshing and intelligent entry and good luck.

    Enlightening

I am a Democrat,I agree with you eight years will not be enough for any President to establish a solid government with the Good Old
Boys club and the Judges who have their beanch for ever, whether Republican or Democrat we are hurting for a cood canidate this time,Every four year we start a new life, find greener pastures and pioneer into space, more tries to start over than a bad marriage. I wish just once a President would leave the government in good enough shape to be cointunued. We are like Dolly's Coat Of Many Collors
we have been mended so many times.
I would like to enter this contest where do I put my work?

Just looking at my pocket book and the country in general I would give that honor to, First "Jimmy Carter," On the surface a very good man but reports from his staff say different. While the country economically was going down in flames, he focused on minor things. After four years of him, the country, Like the Tom Cat courting the lady skunk, said I've enjoyed about as much of this as I can stand. I thought it was a good thing when he said he was going to soak the rich, then I discovered he meant me. We would have been better off with Billie Carter. Second to the top is Lyndon Baines Johnson. In my mind a very evil man. From the first, I was convinced that he played a big role in the assassinations of JFK, RFK and MLK. Many scandals in his background. Billie Sol Estes, Coke Roberts, J. Edgar Hoover and many seemingly shady deals. I would not have picked a man who's only sin has been to fight a world threat that might eventually be larger than Communism.

Lyndon Baines Johnson, obtained by Presidential order a copy of the file kept by the CIA and FBI, on the person he was meeting that afternoon, every morning with his breakfast. He then would attend the meeting and if some bit of trouble or interference raised its head, he would mention brief pieces of the file with the attendee. LBJ passed more legislation while in office then any other president in history.

          Great minds think alike

As an old soldier I have a hard time expressing my feeling on this. I know we are right in our fight for freedom for all people. It is a shame that boys have to die to protect that freedom, but it is a bigger shame when people don't appreciate their sacrifice. Read my poem Roses and Thorns.

Thankyou for your entry in the format that the contest called for. Whilst your write is not lengthy you have certainly provided thought provoking alternatives along with the actions that you agree with in a concise manner with an assertive voice. Your closing line that you are sending a thankyou card to Bush made me wonder how many thankyou cards he will receive for his chosen actions. However, how many thankyou cards do any of us receive, come to that. Whilst I myself would not send him a thankyou card it is a nice gesture and I am sure he would be pleased to receive it.Thankyou again for your thought provoking entry.
