the cursed staff

Forsooth, I have found myself forsaken,
comrades that were once are no more,
for a subtle darkness stole my light,
abandoning my soul on Hell's shore.

Carrion crow's cackles fill the night,
while this search now goes on,
for more power to supply me,
twisting this form, hidden from the dawn.

Trails followed find dead ends,
terrible prices paid in flesh,
to gather time unto my heart,
tangled tricks young souls enmesh.

Feed the growing contorted beast,
ravening my dimming light,
filling this abysmal flesh,
that shambles on throughout the night.

A time of reckoning soon draws near,
these enchanted senses tell,
for the hunter has become the hunted,
comrades old scent I know so well.

They seek to end this land of my curse,
lay me low and bury me deep,
break the cycle of fear each night,
so innocents can find sweet sleep.

Yet that day has not yet come,
for I hide my presence from them still,
seeking to go on forever hunting,
taken hold has Evil of my will.

The moon shines to guide my path,
another victim of stolen laugh,
succumbs to feed the growing need,
born the day I held this cursed staff.
