Golden flame from white waxy pillars
set in silver candlesticks
undulates in obedience to air conditioner's breeze
spreading a soft and enticing light
across the table set for two,
a romantic and intimate dinner careful planned and served
on finest china with crystal wine glasses,
to try and rekindle the magic of their wedding day from ten years ago.
But his eyes stare away, having grown so cold and indifferent,
mind snared in valley where heart beats without passion for her,
this ritual of ring vows celebration unable to bring fire to his icy love
lost to hours spent pursing gold instead of their marriage's treasure.
Anniversary first time they have been together in a week,
with husband gone on business trip, as happens so very often,
still absent in his soul,
now a stranger who shares her same last name,
candle of joy having melted,
leaving her feeling as if stranded on a deserted island
instead of nuptial sanctuary.

ah, do we fall out of love, or do we fall out of passion? Do weneed the same apssion all the time? Is there not something of comfort in jsut being who you are...passion-filled or not? Such a conundrum..it is so easy not to work at stuff any more. Great write...provoking thoughts, indeed.

That's so sad, yet I'm sure it happens all too often!! The most lonely you can ever be is when you are with someone, whose heart isn't with you.
Wonderful take on that prompt!
